Advanced Training for Campus-Based Victim Advocates

NOVA’s Campus Advocacy Training (NCAT) is a 30-hour advanced training academy focused on building knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking in higher education. Graduates of this unique academy may be eligible to apply for the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP)® ‘s “Campus Advocacy Specialist” Credential. The Training will be delivered using a blended-learning approach, which includes seven (7) consecutive weeks of virtual training and self-paced assignments designed to foster participant engagement and discussion.

NOVA Campus Advocacy Training (NCAT) NCAT is intended for campus advocates and community-based advocates serving college populations and covers topics such as ethics & boundaries, confidentiality, privacy, and privilege, language justice, federal laws, restorative justice, forensic exams, and much more.

NCAT will be offered January 15 through February 26, 2025 (Wednesdays only) from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (EST).

NOVA's Campus Advocacy Trainings Frequently Asked Questions

This training is designed for campus-based advocates and community-based advocates providing services to a university or college. If you serve in another role and are interested in participating in NCAT or have questions about your eligibility to apply, email us at [email protected].

Applicants should have received foundational victim advocacy training prior to registering for this training. Many take their state certification training while others may choose to complete foundational level training through the Office for Victims of Crime online Victim Assistance Training.

We are dedicated to providing college students the opportunity to learn more about the field of campus advocacy. We also suggest interested college students check out NOVA’s Youth Advocacy Corps program which aims to elevate the next generation of youth leaders in victim services.

Scholarship opportunities will be available and open to apply for in October.

NCAT takes place on Wednesdays from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM ET (with a scheduled lunch break included) for 7 consecutive weeks beginning in January.

We understand that life happens, and that’s okay! NCAT’s make-up policy ensures that all class sessions will be recorded and participants will have the opportunity to make up missed sessions in order to receive a certificate for completion. Every NCAT class allows participants the unique opportunity to engage with subject matter experts in real time, which makes attendance a critical part to maximize learning.

NCAT classes are small by design and class size is limited to maximize opportunities for direct interaction with nationally recognized subject matter experts in live time. Currently, there is no other national campus advocacy training like NCAT.
